The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced a R10 increase in social grant payments, effective from October 2024. This adjustment is aimed at providing greater financial support to beneficiaries across the country.
As part of this increase, the old age grant for individuals under 75 will rise from R2,180 to R2,190, while those over 75 will see an increase from R2,200 to R2,210. Additionally, the war veterans grant will go up from R2,200 to R2,210, and both the disability grant and the care dependency grant will increase from R2,180 to R2,190.
SASSA expressed that this adjustment underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to improving the welfare of grant recipients. “This increase reflects the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of all grant beneficiaries. SASSA remains committed to providing vital support to South Africans in need and ensuring grant payments are made on time and securely,” said the agency in a statement.
Payment schedules for October are as follows:
- Old age grants were paid on Wednesday, October 2nd.
- Disability grants will be paid from Thursday, October 3rd.
- Children’s grants, along with all other social grants, will be paid from Friday, October 4th.
SASSA also reminded beneficiaries that there is no need to rush to withdraw their funds on the first payment day. “It is safer to keep your funds in your bank account, transact with your card, and withdraw small amounts as needed. Funds will remain in clients’ accounts and will not be forfeited if not withdrawn immediately.”
The agency reassured beneficiaries that all payments will be processed smoothly, ensuring continuous support without interruptions. SASSA remains dedicated to helping vulnerable South Africans by maintaining timely and secure grant disbursements.
